"As far back as I can remember, I was always drawing, painting, dreaming and crafting. It means so much to me to add a sense of connection through design, that sparks joy in the lives of others."
A New York City native, Kristy's creative career began in Advertising as a Graphic Designer, where she design assisted on advertisements for many popular Broadway shows. (Les Mis, Phantom, Wicked, anyone?)
Over the years, she also worked at DC Comics, and as an Advertising Manager and Designer for a NYC celebrity chef. However, with a passion for working with children she decided to pursue a Master's degree in Childhood Education.
After 15 years as an elementary, middle school and pre-school teacher, she returned to her creative roots to launch Kristy Breens Designs in 2020. She studied Graphic Design at SVA (2000), and online classes with Adobe (2020), Udemy (2020), and Shaw Academy (2020). She also studied Pattern Surface Design with Rachael Taylor through Make It In Design, The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design (2020-2021). A life-long learner, she delights in continually taking workshops to hone her skills and learn new methods of art making.
Most recently, Kristy worked with Jewel Licensing & Branding, as their Associate Creative Director and Art & Trend Director. She also has freelanced with Pink Light Studios, design studios and licensing manufacturers.
As a versatile digital artist, surface pattern designer and graphic artist, she is equally comfortable creating bold graphic designs, vector pattern designs or hand painted spot illustrations and hand lettering for creative projects. Left to her own devices, she most enjoys making whimsical, fun, and trend forward designs for stationery, prints and the gift market.
Kristy resides with her family in Northern Virginia. When she's not making art, she enjoys binge watching shows with her husband and children or curling up with a good book. She adores animals, and is lucky to count three cats and a coonhound as part of her family. Other things she's particularly fond of include theatre, poetry, plants, crafting with kids, and advocating for women's health.
Kristy is represented by Jewel Branding. She is available for freelance projects, commissions, licensing and collaborations. Her work is available for sale and licensing. Follow her on Instagram, Pinterest, or Facebook.
